Nintendo Co.tweeted recently that the phone application game “Mario Kart Tour” is getting a new update that is allowing users to finally experience real multiplayer versus starting March 8. From news source “Nintendo Life”, they said that the new multiplayer mode “will allow you to compete against seven other players (with friends or others nearby, or racers from around the world)”.

The new multiplayer mode states that there are three ways to play the online portion of “Mario Kart Tour”. There is with friends or others nearby, standard races, and gold races. The “with friends or others nearby” mode allows users to choose their own rule set and race with friends and others nearby. The “standard races” mode allows users to race with other players around the world. The “gold races” mode is only available to Mario Kart Tour Gold Pass subscribers and offers races at the fastest speeds. From the news source “Polygon, they have stated that the multiplayer portion of “Mario Kart Tour” will have rules and race tracks that change daily.

More information on the modes have been shared from the “Mario Kart Tour” twitter page.

The glaring issue with this big update is that Nintendo Co. originally marketed the game with multiplayer being a main point. After the game has been out five months, the player base for the application game has dropped and many of the early adopters of the game have already stopped playing. Now that Nintendo Co.has announced that multiplayer is being added, fans are wondering if this update was intentional to keep awareness of the application game in the public eye or was it just an oversight by Nintendo Co. themselves.
